Love a windy day.

Someone suggested not pulling any April Fool's pranks this year and I think we all need to get on board with that.

Because, you know, all this.

ios user interfaces have become truly nihilistic. buttons on top of buttons. text on top of text. multiple inscrutable hamburgers. nothing has any meaning and all human action is futile

@aparrish @rysiek Steve Jobs is turning in his grave currently.

Just got the third onboarding customer success email from a service today, “Why [service] customers stick around”.

Unsubscribed.

Good news everyone! Copper tier, the self-service, <£1000, online checkout sponsorship option for @emf is now available! You hold a corporate card, I know you do. Go on. Stick the details in. Just a lil sponsorship. Call it learning and development spend. We won’t tell.

@NAB if you’ve not watched it, Jet Lag.

@mjg59 @emf have you done one on reverse engineering IoT devices to open up control of them yet?

@grajohnt I see you chose violence today.

I have no idea how anyone at ITV signed off on shipping their TV apps. The tvOS one loses its mind anytime you background it while playing video, it’ll come back being very upset it’s not had any video frames in the last 3 weeks. Meanwhile the Android TV version just refused to let my Dad watch the football with a friend, it just said it needed his postcode to be updated despite his account already having one attached.

Honestly it’s very keen humans and not bots!!

My number one email today.

@gsuberland @endocrimes there’s also another sale in April, and tickets get intermittently released in the run up as requests for ticket refunds come in.

14, 11 of which were topping one boulder on my first attempt before bouncing off everything else. Really fun day though, I feel like there can’t be many sports where you can enter a competition at your local gym, have a fun time doing terribly, then watch a Team GB athlete demonstrate just how much better the professionals are than talented amateurs during the finals in the evening.

@q and now I’ve not forgotten mine, thanks!

@stephen I keep almost rage writing a tvOS app which only shows subscriptions in order because I have a nasty habit of sitting down in front of YouTube and then finding its 3 hours later and I’m watching some nonsense I have no real interest in.

Shout out to the boy who entered his first climbing competition today, scored one (1) point out of a possible 275 and is chuffed with that result. Hoping I can have the same attitude when these boulders kick my ass in an hour or so.

@stephen there was at some point a version you could run on another machine and it would use the mobile app’s remote control API to do the same thing on TV but that stopped working.

@stephen if you don’t watch on a TV the SponsorBlock extension is fantastic, skips not only YouTube ads but also has crowd sourced tagging of in-video sponsor reads and begging for subscriptions.

Jonty single handedly destroying the tradition of gathering round the machine god praying it declares the festival to be feasible here.

@flangey @jonty we can now run it so frequently it can fail right before content starts instead.

@mjg59 oh thank god, I’m not the only person on the planet who thinks systemd and its various *d components is actually quite nice to work with if you spend an hour or two reading the documentation.

The EMF team really are the best bunch of people you could find yourself, through a deeply unlikely series of events, running a festival with. Special shout out to @solderandchaos for going “hey, looked like your inbox was a bit overwhelming so I unwhelmed it for you”.

@thechaoszone yup, that’s the plan. I have no interest in using it as a social network, I was just sick of tapping a link to find out about an event or whatever and being presented with a big “log into Instagram” banner instead.

Caved and created a burner Instagram account this evening. Not because I want to use Instagram, I killed the last one because that thing is crack that destroys my ability to do anything else, but because there’s an increasing number of things where they solely post updates on critical information like “we’re closed today” to Instagram rather than their website.
