@jonathanhogg @jon @pascoda (I really want to do this now, damn it)
@jonty @jonathanhogg @pascoda it does seem terrifyingly doable. Biggest problem to solve is probably how to mount climbing holds on an LED wall. Nothing that can’t be solved with a lot of perspex, a laser cutter, and some planning though.
@jon @jonathanhogg @pascoda Prototype should just be a projector, depth camera, and a start button I think. Could probably knock that out in a couple of hours if we had a climbing wall to play with.
@jon @jonathanhogg @pascoda We could totally pull off a bouldering wall like this at EMF though.
Or... https://www.jmentertainment.co.uk/category/climbing-walls/316/rock-climbing-wall-hire
@jonathanhogg @jon @pascoda Might be fun to just take a depth camera to the climbing wall one day and record a wall for a few hours to see what it might look like
@jonty @jonathanhogg @pascoda I’m very tempted to give this a go now, especially if it’s not at too much of an angle I reckon you could get really good distinction between wall, holds, and climber.
@jonty @jon @jonathanhogg @pascoda oh fuck yeah! I'm totally down to bring my rock shoes to EMF 2028 😁
@jon @jonathanhogg @pascoda Oh, also, if you use a projector you can projection map the holds...
ha, here we go, some examples:

the last one is with/by @flowdie , it seems?
@pascoda @jonty @jonathanhogg so what if we did games like that but actually good? I’m thinking black wall, black holds, big projector so that basically anything not active is invisible. Will this result in people banging their knees/knuckles on holds they can’t see? Almost certainly, but it would look amazing.
@pascoda @jon @jonathanhogg @flowdie None of these are what I'm imagining, but also I guess I'm coming at it from an art perspective rather than climbing gamification..
@jonty @pascoda @jonathanhogg @flowdie@hci.social most of them have the same vibes as the endless work social bars which have taken some sort of low tech pub game and slapped a projector over it.
@jonty @pascoda @jonathanhogg similarly to darts climbing doesn’t need gamifying in that manner, it’s already got progression systems and a near endless supply of new levels, particularly once you get into board climbing.
@pascoda @jonty @jonathanhogg put it on the Null Sec dance floor and have the target hold change to the beat, then hope your slot isn’t during a happy hardcore set or you’ll die keeping up.
