Went to a day rave which prohibits phone cameras yesterday. As a pedantic engineer I love pointing out how easily defeated such measures are, but it does make a difference. Far fewer people pointing a camera at me which makes me a lot more confident.
@jmacarthur I love that idea. It’s like those advisory speed camera that show your speed and a frowny or smiling face. Sure you can still speed but the majority just need a reminder of the rules.
These stickers are like a really strong message of what the social contract is at the venue, you can’t claim you did’t know, and people will be more confident to tell you off if you break it.
@jmacarthur that sort of thing feels less like a technical measure and more a clear bit of setting the cultural norms by asking anyone who wants to violate them to make a clear choice in removing the sticker.
@jmacarthur there’s a big difference in the choice to “take a quick photo, I’ll try to make sure nobody’s face is in it” and “I’m going to remove this thing put in place to block my camera from working”.
