#emfcamp people! I am coming this year for the first time, and solo. What ONE tip (seriously just one) would you give someone coming, and read the ones before so there's no doubles. If you like a tip from someone else just fave it and I'll know it's most awesome, dude.
@Thayer wooooo!
FOMO is real even when you are there. Remember that your body and mind have limits - don't try do everything.
See you there 😄
@Thayer ear plugs with good filters for music, and ear plugs for sleeping (the ones you mould are good)
@Thayer bring a plastic bag to keep your change of clothes dry in the showers. They're normally good, but in the past there hasn't been a place to leave them where they wouldn't get wet.
And we're going to be going out of our way to help first-timers at the event this time! Please give feedback!
@Thayer I’m giving two, but wearing different hats:
With my volunteer lead hat on: Pick up a volunteer shift or two (they’ll be available on the website), it’s what makes the event work, also it’s genuinely fun hanging out with people you wouldn’t otherwise while maybe learning a new skill.
With my long time attendee hat on: Don’t fill your schedule for the weekend, leave big gaps to just do whatever takes your fancy or chat shit with whoever happens to be in the bar.
@Thayer they had a huge information board people could post stuff on last time. My daughter and I used that to find our next side quests. This is stuff that isn’t on an online planner etc, just something cool that someone has built or brought that they’d like people to see. (And it had memes on it, so many memes)
@Thayer take a water bottle.
Don’t camp near the ponds if you don’t want to be woken by ducks.
Don’t camp at the top end of the site if you like quiet.
Don’t camp on the middle section, it slopes (that’s why it’s mostly campers and a cinema tent).
@solderandchaos great tips! So where is best to camp?
@solderandchaos early sleep early rise, not social when I'm in my tent. Don't like noise or light, but do bring noise cancelling sleep buds and an eye mask. Can cope with festival camping. Really don't like smells! Have really silly smell abilities!
@Thayer in that case may I suggest anywhere down the right hand side, from midway (usually satellite dishes) to near the maths village and the hackerspaces of the tea and crumpet persuasion? It’s also near crew camping and we’re the people who need sleep the most!
@Thayer food vendors and duck ponds are on the left side of site (smell trigger maybe), and don’t go too far down on the right hand side or you may get diesel generators (although we’re mostly battery this year).
@solderandchaos you had me at tea and crumpets. Thank you so much for all the invaluable help.
@Thayer it’s literally my job at camp - I’m Team Info lead 😆
In a few tweaks’ time there will be a map I can share with you, it’s just having a few final adjustments.
Follow @info for official hints and tips leading up to, and throughout the event. We’ll be running a fediwall for the official accounts and sharing it on screens around site too.
@solderandchaos @info woohoo great thanks!!
@solderandchaos @Thayer that’s it! (We started using it when it was far less organised. The entire left side was just overlapping paper! Great fun to look through)
@hatvillage I do like hats.
