I don't even play Minecraft but the news that Mojang are making the Java edition source open for modders with zero obfuscation is super cool.
@gsuberland it's ... not changing much in a practical sense though, like minecraft was *the* poster child for deobfuscation. it has stopped absolutely nobody for almost as long as minecraft existed!

@whitequark @gsuberland the thing I find weird is that for some time Mojang have published the information to deobfuscate it, and I don’t really understand why. Surely at that point they could just not obfuscate it in the first place and save everyone the effort.
@jon @whitequark given the cash involved there's probably some silly over-the-top legal motivation like defending copyright that they've finally gone and gotten debunked.
