@whitequark my guess would be that they're basing it on the total emissions of the plane for the journey divided by the relative space taken up by the passengers.
@gsuberland right so the next question is "why is this an intellectually honest way to calculate per-passenger emissions"
@whitequark @gsuberland if the plane would have flown empty, it's not.
@d_rift @gsuberland what would more likely happen is that the route would become a lot less profitable and the amount of flights on it would be reduced (somewhat or to zero), since airlines barely break even on economy seats
