@whitequark but weight of the plane itself is constant for a fixed volume and passengers are low weight per volume (compared to cargo). So in total, business class does need quite a lot more fuel per passenger (fewer passengers to distribute the fixed consumption for the weight of the plane itself over)
@KarlHeinzHasliP weight of the plane isn't significantly more than the weight of the passengers: a B737-600 is 36 t empty and (at 100kg per 130 seats) would accept 13 t of passengers. this is just more unsound assumptions
