New to Mastodon? The most important thing to know is that there's no algorithm. Everything you see in your Home feed is reverse-chronological from accounts you follow.
You need to roll up your sleeves and work at building a good feed, because Big Social™ isn't going to do for you, and that's a really good thing!
Start by being generous with follows. Check your Local feed. Dig into replies. Use the migration tools. You can always trim back later.
Another tip is to hit the Alert button on accounts where you want to see every toot. I do that for SecureOwl, ErrataRob, and hacks4pancakes.
The plus on all this is that you don't have an outrage machine suggesting the latest viral stupidity to you. Now, your feed is not designed for dopamine or cortisol, but what you decide is important.
Another thing I learned: Favorites don't make things viral. They're simply there to let the author know you appreciated the post. Don't let that stop you. Appreciate away!
EDIT: And hashtags! Don't forget to follow your fav hashtags and add them to your toots to find your peoples!
#MastoTips supplémentaires :
- Pensez au Camel Case dans vos # (#BonjourÇaVa et pas #bonjourçava), c'est plus facile à lire pour les personnes malvoyantes.
- N'oubliez pas de mettre le texte descriptif sur vos images. Pour ne pas oublier, @PleaseCaption vous fait des rappels si le alt text n'est pas mis.
- Pensez à créditer les auteurs des textes, photos que vous partagez.
Ça vous aidera à mieux vous intégrer 😁

- Faites connaissance avec les membres de votre instance et la TL globale.

Sur #Mastodon, vos messages publics ne sont pas indexés pour la recherche par défaut.
Si vous le souhaitez, il faut une action explicite de votre par :
1. Connectez-vous à votre instance
2. Cliquez sur "Modifier le profil"
3. Sur les préférences de profil, cliquez sur "Vie privée et visibilité" (voir capture)
4. Cochez la case "Inclure mes messages publics dans les résultats de recherche"

Seeing an influx of people making accounts here, a good time as any to make sure we're friendly and helpful to those who are new ^w^
Quick crash-course for Masto:-
- Don't use the official app, if Android=Tusky, if Apple=Ice Cubes is good I hear (I don't use Apple products so ask folks who do for advice on that!)
- Use Content Warnings for stuff you'd not want to see while scrolling; Rant, Violence, NSFW, etc.
- Follow Hashtags to start, I recommend #furry #furryart #fursuit anything else that interests you, posts with the # you follow will populate your Home feed until you follow more people
- Don't like something? Block it or Mute the word; seems obvious but I've seen others complain about it - you did it on the other sites, just need to do it here
- Need help with something? #mastotips & #feditips are your friend, folks here are generally quite helpful especially to newcomers so ask with the # and someone will help

Made a web based protocol handler for a custom activitypub link URI scheme.
The aim of this is to demonstrate a method for allowing users to follow other people's accounts and interact with other people's posts in a much easier way.
Installing the handler allows you to open up special links anywhere on the internet that will load other people's posts and profile directly into your own instance's web client automatically (no more copy and paste).
Looking for folks to test it out and send feedback.
