In mid-October, I took my ridiculous 4mm fisheye lens out to the forest.

It's honestly not bad for photographing mushrooms – uniquely enabling you to get both the mushroom and the rest of the forest in frame at the same time. And it's always fun to experiment.

These emerald towers are only a few millimeters tall. After the rain, I walk past whole carpets of sparkling green moss, decorated with droplets. They glow with reflected light, even though it's evening and the sun is behind the trees.

Saw this curious little fellow on the patio this afternoon. It was scuttling so quickly, I couldn’t get a great picture 🤷‍♂️

iNaturalist reckons it’s a rove beetle (Tribe Staphylinini) of some kind. That’s a huge family of >66,000 species dating back 200 million years, but further searching suggests possibly Tagius ater or Tagius melanarius 🤨

Anyone else have a better ID? Location is just to the east of Heidelberg 🇩🇪

Plant photography thread!

These are a bit older. I used to visit local botanical gardens with a camera in tow and admire all the tiny details. I tried to take photos with emphasis on color, shape and mood while just enjoying a stroll.

I haven't learned enough about moss to identify which species this is, but its fruiting bodies look like they're straight from the toxic forest in "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" (or, just maybe!, it's the other way around).
