Hello! Iām a french embroidery artist. My artworks are inspired by astronomy, [some] video games, and other stuff. Here a some of them as an introduction. They are all unique work of art. The rest is on https://marine.st but Iāll certainly post more of them here, sooner or later.
I finished the x-stitch that was supposed take just a few days while I waited for more floss to arrive. That floss has been here since the end of February and I am a much slower stitcher than I thought š
I š him anyway
A while back, @gwenbeads posted about the book āA Stitch in Line: Mathematics and One-Stitch Sashikoā by Katherine Seaton, and it was so relevant to my interests I had to get hold of it. Iāve been working through it ever since, stitching the samplers and playing with the maths.
Iām currently paused at the end of chapter 8 as I wait for new thread (Retors dāAlsace!!!) to arrive for the next sampler. Hereās a photo of all my samplers so far, done on my hand-dyed muslin scraps; my plan is to patchwork them all together into a hanging once Iāve finished.
Gwenās review of the book is in a paywalled journal, but sheās put a link to free copies (of the review, not the book) here: https://mathstodon.xyz/@gwenbeads/114094206288896863
I did this embroidery ages ago but only washed the stabiliser off last night (so that was the first time I could see if it turned out OK). Relieved it turned out well! If you look at the close-up you can see there are a few places where my ādoing in the endsā came through to the good side by mistake, but Iām not too bothered by that.
The fabric is a viscose/cotton mix bought from Cloth House, the thread is silk floss from Pipers Silks, and the embroidery pattern is lace stitch from the RSN Stitchbank.

I call this āfake blackworkā because the stitch pattern is a blackwork pattern but Iāve done it on a grid that curves around the neckline, whereas (as far as I know) real blackwork is always done on a strictly
square grid. I made the curved grid in Inkscape using two techniques: repeated āinsetā of the neckline path for the curved lines, and then āpattern along pathā using a repeated straight line segment for the spokes. I printed the grid onto soluble stabiliser and then stitched over it.
š§µ For all who like to see my #scrollBook project in progress, I start a thread for new photos.
The idea: Having art small enough for a handbag or hanged on a wall. 'Writing' a #book that can't get copied by AI or people - but can be inspiring for others.
Materials: A vintage wooden bobbin, tea-dyed coton flannel, #teaBags, #sareeSilk scraps, #lace, #embroidery, glass rocailles.

Iām sewing my sweetie a new t-shirt with an electronics theme. Yesterday I showed you the resistor symbol I sewed that will be at the top of both sleeves. The shirt will be entirely hand sewn with two layers of medium-light weight cotton jersey and Wonderfil Spagetti cotton thread. It will have long sleeves and a crew neck. This is the back neck. The design here is a symbol used for a battery in a drawing of a circuit.
The biggest part of this embroidery is couching. Often, we couch thread over yarn or a few strands of thread. In this case, the ānoodleā under the couching is a 1/2ā (12 mm) wide strip of cotton jersey (knit), which is the same fabric as the base fabric. When you stretch it, it naturally curls. I used chain stitch for the smaller details. The neckline is a folded to the outside and sewn down with whip stitch. Itās important to use a stretchy stitch on the neckline. #sewing #embroidery
Wow, I have never felt so welcomed on any social network before! Thank you all :) I thought my first post would be seen by just about nobody. But no, nearly 600 favorites! I'm amazed!
Another one of my moss artworks: a small lighted sporophyte embroidery again. More (and other types of artworks) to follow!
I'm new here! As an introduction, one of my earlier artworks: a small lighted sporophyte moss light. More to follow!
Went to a short workshop on "embroidery on the unusual" today.
I've previously stitched paper a fair bit (and some pre-drilled wood & metal) but we also played with balsa wood, copper shim & reclaimed metal sheet (tomato puree tube).
But this biscuit was staring at me from the snack plate the whole time. It had ready-made holes! The tutor thought it was hilarious š
(We didn't have much time so I kept my designs simple - I like lines š)
I want to embroider some leaves and vines on the next linen top I make, and it turns out that Inkscapeās āpattern along pathā feature is very clever! Iām not sure I love this placement though (suggestions are welcome).
Experimenting with fake pintucks using a twin needle. The ripples in the non-pintucked parts are a bit annoying, but possibly a thicker fabric would have fixed that, or maybe a stabiliser of some kind ā there will be future experiments along those lines.
This was inspired by an article by Jean Liittschwager in issue 78 of Threads Magazine.

Had another pair of jeans in for repair with frayed pocket openings. This time I decided to alternate the colour of the binding to encode information, with the binding for each eighth of an inch representing one bit, and so each inch representing one ASCII character. I enjoyed this repair, I hope the jeans owner likes it too!

Mending some linen trousers, before and after.
Incidentally, if you do a fair bit of hand sewing, whether thatās for mending or embroidery or something else, consider getting yourself a headlamp with USB charging. They start pretty cheap and you wonāt regret it.
New instance, new #introduction ā hello, Iām Kake, I live in South London, and I like making things.
I make all my own clothes (except for socks), and I make patchworked textiles using my own hand-dyed fabrics. Sometimes I embroider them.
Iām part of the creator team on the Discworld MUD; in other words, I help to build a game thatās set in an immersive world made entirely out of words, and I do this with a mix of creative writing, bad puns, programming, bugfixing, and esoteric knowledge of a 30-year-old codebase. http://discworld.starturtle.net/
Iām good at cooking, but Iām mainly interested in simplifying it so it doesnāt take time away from the other things I want to do. I like to develop fast-to-prepare recipes with vegetables and pulses and wholegrains. Iām an omnivore, and I generally prefer fish to meat.
I spent several years writing an ongoing local history of the land and buildings along a road near my house, but I put this on pause after the pandemic started, when I ran out of the material Iād already researched. One day I might pick it up again. https://london-road-croydon.org/history/
Also, in no particular order, and not limited to: trans people are valid, immigrants make societies better, itās OK to be fat, the Fediverse has a racism problem, women are not second-class citizens, Israelās genocidal behaviour is an outrage, disabled people have value.

Yesterday was a shit day.
Thereās not much I can do to make it better, but if making an angry, sweary embroidery will help you Iāve made this pattern free on my site for the next day or two. #embroidery
New to the instance so Iāll introduce myself:
Lefty diasporic #AntiZionist #Jew based in #LosAngeles I enjoy #embroidery and #sewing interested in having open and collaborative conversations to try to find #Democratic solutions to the problems faced online and IRL
Last weekend I attended @oggcamp an #opensource un-conference. The first one since Covid, and the 4th one I have attended.
I gave a presentation on Open Source Embroidery, looking at @turtlestitch and @inkstitch I brought our #WMGoutreach embroidery machine, and several people created their own works of art across the weekend.
Thanks to the crew & sponsors. It was an inspiring and thoughtful experience. Many great talks!

Working on this year's holiday card embroidery: I am still undecided on which design I'll choose, or I might go for mix of these.
In recent years I have also added a poem to the cards, which is an excellent excuse to purchase Margaret Atwood's latest poetry collection
