My #Discord account got banned because they are sure I am a minor. They want an official government ID that proofs I am old enough use Discord. They want a picture showing me holding the ID and holding a sheet of paper with my username written down.
People like me who do not want to give their ID to random companies will now not have access to their account, their connections.

The thread feature was introduced in 2021. Usability and discoverability have improved since then.
A hint, for users of mobile e.g. iPad0S:

I took one of my favorite features out of my #DiscordBot and made it into it’s own dedicated #Discord bot.
Introducing MuzakBot! It’s a very simple bot that gets all of the known music streaming service links for a song/album and posts them in a simple response.
#Discord told me on #HackerOne that this isn't a security #vulnerability, so cool, I'll talk about it publicly.
You can disable 2FA¹ on another person's account if you get access to their phone momentarily.
All you have to do is create a new account and put their phone number in as the login; if you verify the code, it strips it from the other account with no warning, and they can't take it back.
So have fun I guess?

Using #Discord as a forum is a weird experience. Even trying to view this feels overly .. crowded? And search seems overloaded with searching in channels, people - like a "omni-search" that's more likely to give something _I don't need_ versus actionable info.
So I've never done an #introduction because I never know what to write. We'll get through it best we can. I'm Nincodedo, Nin for short. I'm a #nintendo fan and #softwareengineer who works mostly with #backend #java. My current side project I work the most on is Ninbot, a #discord bot that uses #springboot to do a variety of silly things. I've also worked on some #minecraft mods in the past and other random utility stuff. You can check out all of that on my GitHub.

It is not archived.
It does not allow anonymous viewing.
It is not searchable, and neither is it indexed by external search engines.
Data is walled in and unexportable.
Bonus round: Chat is also NOT a forum!
Chat is a chronological firehose, good for temporally transient information, largely ungrouped. Forums are a topical tree, good for longer-lasting information grouped by subject.
If you would write it down in real life (including email) then use a forum.
If you would only say it out loud (in the hallway or on a call) then chat is perfectly fine.
And if you say it out loud while someone else writes it down, tell your assistant to use a forum.

Someone asked a question on #Github Discussions and someone else closed the discussion saying "(...) Questions can be asked through Discord 👍🏻".
For the love of god, stop using #Discord as a forum. The questions are undiscoverable.
Of coouurrse #Discord didn't bother to take any action on the server being used to coordinate the #Mastodon spam attacks. It's like they don't care about #moderation on their platform or something. 🙄
(P.S. Don't use Discord as a primary communication and/or discussion outlet, please find and utilize other platforms and methods to do so. Thank me later. Preferably I wouldn't utilize Discord at all if possible, but I'm not here to force people to do so.)
