A mild, still night produced a high number of #moths. First set of highlights included

1) Pale Tussock Moth - huge floofy legs

2) Miller - as if doused in milled flour

3) Iron Prominent - dark and moody

4) Poplar Lutestring - neat and tidy little thing

1) and 2) The giant POPLAR HAWK MOTH - as if torn from the pages of a magazine but with the cutest fuzzy face

Overhead shot of a large 5cm moth on a hand. It has a thick grey abdomen. It has grey-brown forewings which it holds slightly wide of its abdomen and which slope sharply behind like an arrowhead. They are scalloped across the bottom. The hindwings poke out underneath the forewings but either side of its head. It gives the appearance of being almost square and quite angular - leaf like. The wings are largely grey with a dark grey-brown band across the middle with a small white dot in the very centre of each wing.

I just met a #Fox again. And was extremely lucky, these are some of the best shots I have gotten yet. I just happened to be where to fox wanted to be, and crouched down. Not sure if it is the same #NeighborhoodFox as the other few times, there might be multiple ones around here, any experts on how to tell fopses apart? (1/2)

Light rain and cloud meant a few more moths (and a bumble bee!) came out to play at 'Chez Mothman' last night.

Still no real species diversity yet, but, compared to last year, #moth numbers seem encouraging. May/June/July will tell for sure.

First sighting in 2025 of the very unfairly named CLOUDED DRAB. Yes, he's plain, but undeserving of such an unflattering moniker.
