One of my favorite reminders that we are always safer than the fearmongers want us to believe.
This is from the time of "OMG, terrorists are everywhere in the United States".
Obviously did my best here to obscure his identity.

@salixsericea oh yes. I remember those omg times. I was stopped with my two sons who were traveling with their brass instruments. They were elementary and middle schoolers. Their instruments were swabbed. Theair in the containers of their toys was tested. I had to explain what was going on to them since security wouldn't explain why they were touching their things while adults were allowed to pass.
@kellyromanych @salixsericea My daughter was a music major in college and grad school (oboe and English Horn). Traveled a lot to orchestra auditions. TSA did NOT like oboe knives (used in the making of reeds) in carry-on luggage.
@BrunoMcGee @kellyromanych How horrible for children and young people with musical instruments, maybe sports equipment too, I'd guess. My partner always accompanied their boss to the airport and made him pat all his pockets because he was a bit of a gun nut. Saved him a couple of times. On one flight with a group, we confused the TSA folks so much that they overlooked a large full bottle of water in a carry-on. were mortified and laughed hard when we noticed on the plane. It was just mad.
