Hot on the heels of a post I wrote 4 years ago, wouldn't it be useful to have a well-known URl for user avatar images? When I sign up to a web service, I don't want to faff around uploading an image to use as my avatar. I want that service to look at my [β¦]

@Edent As an option, not a bad idea, perhaps. But not everyone uses the same email address across all services. (I certainly don't - every one is unique to the service.) And not everyone wants to use the same avatars for the same address. You could put sophisticated decision-making behind it, but that just complicates and negates the whole purpose.
In short I'm not convinced it would be worth the development effort, but that never stopped anyone (non-commercial) before.
