Any recommendations or checklists for self hosting transactional emails?
No to minimal marketing, signin, totp,… all emails users expect and initiate the send.
Just throw them on the same server as regular accounts and share IP reputation?
Any risks that’d justify setting up a second mail server for transactional mails?
Any best practices beside the obvious “how to get emails delivered”? (I can send just fine to Gmail etc.)
@fallenhitokiri I've used listmonk on a dedicated subdomain for one customer for a while. Worked pretty well. I'd always go for a dedicated subdomain though.

I’ve setup a subdomain already, I’m mostly worried about IP reputation of the actual host.
I’ve seen a 50:50 split of “transactional mails will kill your IP rep” and “if people don’t report it as spam and you don’t send 100k from a cold IP you are fine”
@fallenhitokiri At my main employer we send appox. 100k order transaction mails on a seperate subdomain on the same IP every day and never ran into issues.
