I read a *lot* of cover-letters from job applicants. Most suck.
If you want to get #fedihired, I've written a brief no-nonsense guide to improving your applications.

@Edent Is writing cover letters actually still a thing in some regions/businesses? My employers' job advertisements nowadays explicitly only ask for a CV, since the cover is usually only a recital of the advertisement and a summary of the CV anyways. Why even bother..
@WooShell I wouldn't have written about it if it weren't.
Cover letters are a hack because people are *terrible* at writing CVs. I've had 6 page ones which list every weekend job someone had two decades ago.
No one has time to forensically examine that much text.
@Edent yea, I've received some of that type as well. Always makes me wonder whether I should score that candidate down for lacking awareness and feeling for relevancy, but I also can't stop myself from reading it all to see how that person stumbled around in their life so they ended up on my desk.
Thankfully, I don't have to handle applications that often, and when I do, I can dedicate time to them. An HR person on the other hand..
